usually when you boot you will get a message about needing to reactivate windows and either need to do it online or call microsoft.
legally you supposed to install one license or copy per pc

yes, you have to buy eather another cd or you can get just a liceness. and you can install it on only one computer.
anfer 30 days you must activate it with the internet or a phone call to microsoft, falure to do this will render xp inactive and it will cease tu run untill you do activate it.

after that activation , xp will make contact with the microsoft database over the internet to verify that the code is the correct one for your system if, you will not even be aware that it is happing.

sometime you can get a new oem xp cd cheaper than the cost of a licenes. last I heard a person was charged $ 100 for a new one.
so you might be better off just to go ahead and buy the new cd and that way the person who has the system will have the cd for his computer. and they will need it some day.

ok for viruses......i scanned with norton anti-virus and it came up with 5 files that were detected...ad-aware and other i think....mostly that though...at the time i had system restore on...i tried to pick delete but it wouldnt delete them...so i said exclude from next thing..or something..sry..cant remember...

but if i had system restore off would it have been able to delete them??? and are these files bad and can i delete them even though i told it to exclude them from next search???/

Interesting....I don't know what this means, if anything.
I bought the upgrade version.

I proceeded to do the upgrade, then i did a clean install - same PC. I had a dual boot system. Both required me to activate, which I did. One i activated through the internet, one through a phone call. Never had a problem with either.

Both worked fine.(the clean install seemed quicker) i subsequently deleted the "clean install" and modified the boot.ini file to remove the dual boot option.

Did I violate the EULA ? Didn't mean to if I did.
