Dual Boot XP/DOS?
Is it possible to have a dual boot between Windows XP (NTFS) and DOS (FAT32) on one hard drive? How would I go about doing this?
Thanks. Delta013 |

you wood have to partition the hard drive in to 2 partitions then format the xp one to ntfs and the dos one to fat16 if you have windows xp instaled all ready then get a copy of partition magic and it wil do it for you

No need for boot manager software with XP. When the computer boots you will see a screen that lists the OS's.

I don’t, but the relative I’m building a PC for wants to be able to run old DOS applications on it, instead of having to use another PC.

I would not be surprised at all if some of the old dos software will not run on the newer systems today, there is too many things that are handled differantly and just will not be compatable
the main one would be from the speed of the cpu will not allow it |

Personally, I think it is not worth the trouble to create a separate boot for DOS. A lot of old DOS progs will run fine on WinXP. If they do not, you can always set their compatibility settings to Win95/98 in WinXP, and they should run OK.

I've never had XP's compatibility work for me.

I will try compatibility mode as you suggested first, if that does not work I will try some sort or dual boot system.
Thank you for your help everyone. ![]() Delta013 |
