winxp recovery cd

i have win xp recovery cd. however if I need to fix win xp. It would not allow me to repair(no such option available)..it will only do it if i wash my hard drive and reinstall. Also it will not allow format in NTFS but only in FAT32. Can anyone help?
am I missing something

Do you mean the recovery CD that you got with your store-bought PC? If so, then there isn't much you can do. That is what happens when you buy a PC from a store.

Then you have a "store-bought" PC. PC manufacturers nowadays just give recovery CDs out instead of the actual OS CD. When you buy a PC from a store, generally you are buying a disposable item. They usually won't give you the opportunity to fix anything if it goes wrong. That's when you buy another PC from them, of course.

If you want to use the recovery console, you are going to have to get your own Windows XP CD.
