viris ----------------- ?
I think its a virus, but I cant find it or a payload of a viris that does some of the things my PC is doing.
For example, in the address bar of Opera I get ---------- all the way across. If I open Notepad, it will start with the ------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- and just keep going. Also Opera will open at 20% view. Problem is that it does not happen all the time. I tried a restore (couple times) but it didnt get rid of it. I don't have any idea of what else to look for. It figures, I just got done reformating this drive. If anyone knows what this --------------------------- is, I'd really appreciate it. B |

That doesn't sound like a virus, that sounds like the - key on your keyboard is stuck.
Try a different keyboard. |

Its what it looks like. But I ran the keyboard under the water in the sink and only a little dirt came out! :-)
Don't worry, I dried it out in the microwave. OK, so I'm not funny. It does look like it though. But it only does it in some places. And mostly, it will only do it in notepad when there is already some typing in the page. It was also , in Opera, starting the web page at 20% viewing. I would bump it up to 100%, and it would go right back to 20%. Almost like it is playing tricks on me, and that is why I though it might be a viris. I checked my CPU usage , and memory, but all seems fine. I didn't find any thing at symantec. I even went and used the symantec viris ck at their site. Also did the Intelligent Updater, instead of live update. But still nothing. Heh, its got me. Thqanks B |

First, try a different keyboard. Go with the more obvious things first. If that doesn't work, then we can move on to less likely things.
I think that the Opera going to 20% view is related, as the - key probably controls that as well. |

hmmmm
doctorgonzo,
I knew I shouda put it in the dishwasher. I cant help it man. If I dont laugh over this stuff I'd go nuts. The connection didn't feel tight when I unplugged the keyboard. But to be sure I plugged the another keyboard in. And on this boot, all went well. And it was mostly at boot. One of the other things it was doing was making beeps when stating and when I clked the mouse. Right clk on desk top etc... I will reboot a few times, but I think you may have got it. I am greatful. I just really didnt think it was the keyboard. Mostly because it would only do it in certain places. If a key broke//got stuck, why wouldn't it do it every where it could? At least that was my reasoning. Now, I wonder if I can restore bak to my orig point? I backed up 3 times. I never tried to restore it back up the calendar. Thanks a lot, and if it comes back I will give ya a call :-) |

Hopefully you arent hot-swapping the keyboard if its a PS2.
A key need not necessarily need to break for it to get "stuck" sometimes the spring action goes bad with time, when certain keys when depressed do not release completely. |

Naw, no PS2. Just an old keyboard I guess. Its the first time I have had a keyboard break.
I should have had the sense to at least eliminate it from the possibilties. Feel like I just fell off the turnip truck! alls ok |
