Question video codec not supported???

i have some video files that i want to play. they claim to need a codec by indeo.
windows says it doesn't include them in their system anymore.
i've tried to search for downloads but not too much luck.

the indeo website wants to sell me the codec.

maybe i should try to use realplayer or

anybody else run into this quirk

Well I know you can d/l a codec pack from Kazaa but I heard they are buggy and contain viri. But I have never heard of an indeo codec. What are you trying to play? Video you recorded?

Try DIVX-usually it does work I think not only indeo does the job. BTW what are you viewing? indeo-usually is for media from games

Indeo is an older Microsoft codec for the AVI format. Ligos purchased the rights to the codec when Microsoft dropped the AVI format for the ASF/WMA/WMV formats.

I'm suprised you've got a video that requires the Indeo codec since any AVI codec should work in it's place. I know people around here seem to think this is insane, but the Quicktime Player supports the indeo codec so that's always an option. RealPlayer to my knowledge does not.

Realplayer will not let you play a video file if it has been encoded with Indeo/Ligos. The player, be it WMP, RealPlayer, DivX Playa etc etc, is usually just the front end, it still requires core files to decode what was encoded. Your only option would be to get the Indeo files from the Ligos website, the price consideration is based on how badly you want to play the file.

I think there is another way. I have Street fighter 2 Zero (pc) and FF7 (pc). It comes with indeo. Maybe you can play it through that way. I may be wrong.
