USP10.dll error

I've finally managed to get Theme Park World to work on my computer after patching it, but before it starts it gives me the attached error message 3 times before starting. USP10.dll is in the game directory, as well as the system32 folder. I'm wondering whether I shouldn't go about replacing the system32 dll file with the game directory dll file. How would I go about doing this, anyway? I know I need to start in MS-DOS, but what commands must I put in for it to go about deleting the system 32's dll file, copying the game directory's dll file, and then placing it in the system32 folder? The procedure was well explained on the dll-files.com website, but now they only supply a full FAQ to those who pay $8.95 pm.

Is that a time or a price? LOL

Anyway, you should just be able to copy paste the .dll file to the system32 directory. If it doesn't work and says it's in use, boot to safe mode and try it there.

Good Luck!

Do you use the CD to play?

Try this at M$ and d/l the installer at the bottom.

That installer mentions that it's for 95, 98 and ME. I'm using XP. Still safe to use? It says that it "can't be installed or upgraded by this redistributable".

While I wait to be approved membership to that group the page suggests, should I just try system restore?

If it used to work before yes you can try system restore. Don't know if it will work. It may get rid of your patches and such. Make sure you come back to today (undo) if it doesn't work b/c restore may change other things as well that you don't know about.

Well, nevermind. I can't restore my computer to any point except to 2 hours ago! I did a repair installation with no success, therefore no more restore points.

OK. Here's what's happened lately. I installed the Recovery Console, and uninstalled the game that caused all this trouble. I booted to the Console and I moved the latest version of the .dll file (which was in the system32 folder) around from the temp folder, and back to the system32 folder (basically replacing it with the exact same thing). I restarted and now the error no longer shows up at startup.

What I think must've happened was that when I tried replacing the system32 dll file from the command console with the one from the game directory, it would refuse to work because the game's dll file is an older version to the one that comes stock with XP. So compatibility issues maybe? If I was to try installing the game again, would I take the newer version of USP10 and replace the older one that the game has in it's directory?

Thank you so much DragonNOA1 for all your help.

If you are to install the game again, back up the .dll file or create a restore point. The game shouldn't over-write a new file with an old file... but if it does for some reason at least you will be prepared (in more ways then one). Good Luck... and happy gaming.

You might try starting the game in Compatibility mode. You can riqht-click the program icon & select it there.

Most files in the System32 folder are protected files ("Windows File Protection"), so if you'd managed somehow to replace the file with the older version, wfp probably would've started up and put the original back in place anyway.

My guess is that the game should play fine in Compatibility mode, for then it can use the older version of that file from it's own directory without any Windows stomach upset.
