Nero Express 5.5 and Win 98se
Whe I try to install nero express 5.5.9.9 OEM in a Windows 98 se PC, after reboot and open the program there is an error message the a virus has corrupted the nero exe file, I have tried in about 8 pc with windows 98se even in a fresh win 98 se installation, the program came with a LG 52x32x52 cd burner, I even downloaded the demo version and nothing the same error after reboot.
Is this a bug. Is there a Fix The PC canīt have virus because this is a fresh installation. |

Are you trying the software with the LG burner? Think Nero that comes with a burner will only work with that burner. Also, have you checked the Ahead Nero website for any update or fix? That's the first place I'd look if you are using the Nero with the LG.

Run a virus check with a bootable antivirus disk anyway - just to rule out a virus in the bios.
. . . & here are two examples from the Nero support site of installation errors. If either matches yours, have a look: __________________________ "Since I want to install the latest update of Nero Im getting The Nero.exe executable file has been corrupted. What can I do now? - have a new download from a different server - check your HDD for viruses - uninstall all drivers from other burning software - update your BIOS and chipset driver - shut down all other (background) applications while installing nero - check your RAM for damaged sectors - check the frequency of your CPU, it might be over- or undertacted - ask Retailsupport@nero.com for the Nero Clean Tool if the problem remains." "When installing the Nero update you get the following error message: Error in installationdata! The installprogram is corrupted, maybe it was damaged during downloading. Aborting installation. If you always get this error message, even though you have tried downloading Nero several times, then please delete the Nero.40 directory which can be found in the TEMP directory" ___________________________ . . . and here's a link to their Utilities webpage (which includes the Clean Tool mentioned above, plus several other diagnostics & file library downloads) http://www.ahead.de/us/631898242809219.html ***(be sure to check out the Win98 download for the DCOM files - Nero support says that these are necessary for Nero to run - this is under the "Libraries" menu on that "Utilities" webpage)*** See if that gets you going . . . Gary [p.s. --- this is all assuming, like Panama mentions, that you are trying the Nero with the burner it came with. When you mention 8 pcs - are you referring to 8 different builds? but the same LG? It's probably copy protection otherwise] Last edited by GaryRouth; 01-08-2004 at 03:25 AM. |

I downloaded the files Dcom98.exe and the 50comupd.exe but it didnīt work, the cd with nero came with the burner I am not using another cd, I tried to download the clean tool but the connection fails with Download accelerator plus.
I really need to back up as soon as possible, I need to back up data, no special functions required. Is there in the internet any FREE software that I can use? (Not nero trial) |

Both the Ahead software support and nVidia support pages recommend not using any download managers when downloading their products - it can lead to data corruption. . . . But this shouldn't matter for the time you tried the Nero install from their CD on a fresh Win98se installation. Curious. Did you try any of the diagnostics? Maybe that will lead to something.
Try the Clean tool again with your download manager disabled, see if it helps. There was a link a while back that mentioned free burning software, and I imagine you could turn up something over at download.com, but I don't know of any personally. I tried a quick search for that old thread, but didn't see it. I've never had any trouble installing Nero, so I'm wondering if there is indeed something amiss in the pc (or pcs) that you've tried it on. Could you have an infected floppy you're using for some tool that's corrupting things? Can't hurt to try the antivirus scan angle, maybe the software is right all along. Let us know how this comes out: it's a puzzler. . . . Gary |
