Multiple Screens

Hi all,

Just wondering how i'd go about setting up multiple screens (and what i need), basically what i'd like is to run one single system and have views of different desktops on different screens.

For example, I could have my 'notes' on one screen, and an application on the other (just as an example).

How would i go about doing this or am I asking the impossible?

Many thanks (in advance)

Barcode!

Are you talking about multiple desktops on one monitor or multiple monitors?

Purchase a dual-head video card (that is, one with two outputs). Matrox makes some for fairly cheap if you don't need super performance for gaming.

also, www.appian.com makes some dual monitor cards, and ATI's Radeon 7500 supports dual monitors.

You will be able to do different things on different screens. If you just want the same thing on two screens, you wouldn't need a dual-head card, you would just need a splitter.

You would do it through display properties in Windows. It's easy to do.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't 98SE and above support twin video cards? If so, and all he's doing is simple office stuff, just buy an inexpensive PCI video card and throw it in. Then go into Video Properties and set it up as he wants it?

A cheap PCI card would only cost $20-$30.......

The main moniter needs to be able to withstand demanding games unfortunetly.

On a side note, my PC has an nvidia card which I use to connect to my moniter and also one built into the mother board, no way to get it to be controlled seperately?

Sure!! Use the nVidia card for your 'Main' view, and the on-board for the secondary

I have a friend with a similar setup ( he has a Compaq with a Cel 766, on-board video, and a nVidia MX400). He use the MX 400 for light gaming and the on-board just for text based stuff.
