I have takin all out. no sound card, no modem. no NIC, changed the vid card, its not the problem. Disabled USB. CHANGED the hard drive. Disabled ACPI for the fun of it, still all the same problem. it freezes... I have also scanned for boot sector virus I changed the stick of ram to a stick i know works, and still freezes... im out of ideas here... another problem, it wont reboot. to get this thing to start. you gotta start it, turn it off and on 3 times then it will finaly POST... so im stumbled. anyone??? |

usually when i get stuck il take the board out of the case and add one piece at a time,it takes a bit of time but it narrows it down, can you get into safe mode?

Hal has a troubleshooting list in the Tips & Tricks forum that can help with builds (and re-builds) like this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=12753
The fact that it's having trouble making it through POST really points to the out-of-case procedure. For a quick try first, though, see if you can enter Bios Setup, and try "Set Defaults and Exit" . . . you may have some odd settings that are off a bit. You could also try things using a different CD-rom to install from. I haven't seen a Cyrix chip in action for a while, either - what model/speed chip is it? Last one I saw was a 486 clone back in 1994. . . Best of luck . . . Gary |

found out what the problem was, i think..
booted the computer with a Knoppix cd, and it works, i can access the C drive, and work around, play games and all that stuff....there for im sure there's a virus in the mbr. as linux by passes it and it works, windows doesn't and its screwed.. i believe that by using a win2k cd and using the fixboot and fixmbr should solve my problem...SHOULD.... |
