For the past week or so if I ever go to Ctrl+Alt+Del and into applications theres always a System file called "DfrgFAT.exe" using 100% of my cpu usage, i end it, but about 5mins later it comes back again.
Ive got 512mb ram, amb athlon xp 3000 & on xp home... ...does anyone know what this file is and how to get rid of it? It really is giving me alot of hassle. Thanks |

I'm guessing its AutoDefrag. Do you have a schedule setup to defrag?

If it's an XP Home box, that's the core executable for defragging FAT/FAT32 partitions. It can be scheduled from the command line. Is your XP Home running on a FAT32 partition? [is this a dual-boot system?]
Here's a list of other system core components: http://www.informit.com/isapi/produc...t/articlex.asp I don't know the commands off-hand to change the defrag schedule, but I imagine Statica or one of the XP techs will know. Should be in Help index somewhere, or perhaps in an Administrative tool might help. . . . Gary [by the way, blockcipher is correct if the computer with the defrag is a Win2k box instead of an XP box. The 2k program AutoDefrag uses that file] |

I'm having a similiar problem. I keep catching dfrgfat.exe running by itself when the pc is idle. I have nothing scheduled that would be causing this and its driving me insane because I can't figure out why its running on its own!

What OS are you using?
Click on Start->Run and type MSCONFIG. Look in the startup tab for any refrence to the defrag program.

I figured out the problem on my pc, with the defrag running by itself. It was the antivirus program! I have CyberScrub installed on this pc and the second I close the main AV program and its scheduler defrag quits running and leaves the task manager window!
I have submitted a question/complaint to the companies tech support about this but they have not responded with an answer yet. I'll probably end up removing the program, I didn't like it much anyway. David Last edited by davidrosso; 03-17-2006 at 04:15 PM. |
