Can't Load Win 2000
I have this on my D drive. but when I try to load a message appears something like this (system failure please load system disk and press enter when ready). I know it is there because it shows up on my Xp in my computers.
I tried using the boot disk but that did not work. I used the repair consoule and tried to ty D: fixboot then tried D: fixmbr but it still won't load. I don't have any emergency repair disks made so how do I go about getting some? and what else should I try short of doing a reinstall. |

Since this is on D drive, what is on C? Is this a dual boot system? If so, did you format C?

Xp is on C, Win2000 is on D and on another HD altogether.
Update: I took out my two HD and swaped them around I put the 120GB as master and 100GB as slave. Now I cleaned both HD of their OS and did everything over again, only because after runing 2000 again nothing would change. Now I have Win 2000 as my C:\ and XP on my D:\. Now here is something new when booting up and the boot screen appears I have 2000 listed twice? Why when there is only on 2000 installed and how do you eliminate one so it doesn't appear during start-up?. |

When you install either os [xp or win2k] it will write some files to the root of the boot drive regardless of where you have elected to install the os. If you have just win2k installed and want to get rid of the boot menu, you will need to edit the boot.ini file. It is a hidden, read only file on the root of your boot drive. Set explorer to show protected os files; now right click on the boot.ini file and go to properties remove the read only attribute. Open the file in note pad and remove any reference to xp; make sure that the default line points at the current partition in which you have installed win2k. Note: I would make a backup of the boot.ini file in case you mess up doing the edit. Here is an example of a boot.ini file for a single boot system where the os is in the first partition of the first drive.
[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect |
