Your XP CD is bootable, and you can use it to repair your existing version.

Of course, I am at a loss to understand what the issue is for you. Did someone try to run a setup of Win98 on your computer?

YES THEY put the 98 diskette in by accident instead of the xp. i cant run the cdrom at start i tried everything. i tried disabling things and everything and even manually removing the 3 1/2 floopy ide cables and hd. i even was on the phone with a dell techi and he coudnt even reslove it. i am now on hold as he is asking his suprivisor. time on phone : 1 hour 30 mins.

if i knew what the guy did exactly is might help but the problem is i dont and he is in china on business.

eh i think the mobo is dead. the A: is currupt. noone at dell could help me. they tried transefering me everywhere. came to the conclusion that to rescue the hd getting a new mobo would be the best choice. but wat a waste of money considering its a 550 Mhz PIII
