long filenames in xp home

I recently downloaded 3 music videos, problem is i can't delete them now due to the extremely long filename they have.

file 1. britney_spears_feat_madonna-me_against_the_music_(peter_rauhofers_electrohouse_edit)-dvdrip-svcd-2003-se

file 2 Kurtis_Mantronik_feat_Chamonix-How_Did_You_Know_(77_Strings)_(Original_Vocal_Edit)-DVDRiP-SVCD-2003-SE
and
file 3 Sting-Send_Your_Love_(Calderone_and_Quayle_Radio_Edit)-DVDRiP-SVCD-2003-SE

i have tried everything to get rid of them. I tried deleting the directory, no dice, tried through DOS, no dice. When i right click on the file it only displays, play, open, queue-it-up, add-to-playlist, copy to cd or device, open with, and send to with ti's own little pull down menu. I was able to play the files when i originally downloaded it, it all started when i put them into a different directory. ANY help would be much appreciated, and if i left out any info let me know, TIA

Try renaming them first then see if you can delete them.

all so if you press ctrl alt delete and give me a list of the running processes and programs and any programs that are running in the system tray down by the clock

I finally got them deleted, i started from the top most folder in the hierarchy, and renamed the folder with just 1 letter, and proceeded to do so for each directory after that. I had a folder labeled section-e, then a folder 2004 releases, then another folder named week 02, and yet antoerh folder with the actual filename, and then the file in that folder along with an sfv file and nfo. I guess you can't have directories go that deep with long filenames. I wasn't able to play the file or anything, after i changed the folder names, i was able to play it. I believe the full length of all characters in the directory came to 244. thanks for the input, much appreciated

Hi

I got the same problem. I downloaded a clip from Kazza ,and its name is very long. As you know, all the files downloaded from Kazaa go to My shared folder. I tried Mikeyb's way, but I couldn't rename My shared folder. It says: Cannot rename this folder. It is being used by another person or program.

I turned off Kazaa, but still, I couldn't rename it. Help please. Thanks

sometimes those files you download from kazaa do that. if you go to your task manager (ctrl-alt-del) make sure that the media player isn't still open in ur processes tab. If you don't find anything in there, all it might take is restarting ur comp or it will take a few minutes and you will eventually be able to delete it, i've dealt with those files also. I dunno why this happens but i was always eventually able to delete them.
