question about boot disk

I offen read in some books that with Windows boot disk, you can log into Windows when the booting from C: drive where Windows boot files locate fails.

But when the computer fails, I do so by following the advice, insert the Windows 98 floppy boot disk in the A: drive, then press the button,
I can only get the A: or C: , NO Windows 98 desk top was showed, the Windows 98 still not start.

Thanks for any help!

With a Windows boot disk, all you will get is the command prompt, usually A:\. Windows will not boot to GUI mode automatically from the boot disk unless you specifically modify the file AUTOEXEC.BAT to call the file WIN.COM from C:\Windows.

However, once you are at the A:\ prompt, you will be able to access any file on a Win98 machine using the DOS commands, if you have a proper knowledge of them (http://home7.inet.tele.dk/batfiles/msdos7/).
Once you have booted to the A:\ prompt, you can load Windows by typing CD C: and at the C:\ prompt, you can type WIN to start up the Windows GUI.
