Device drivers question
I hope this is the right place to post this. Ok, let me try and explain.
I own a Dell Dimension 8200. It's coming up on 2 years old. It's a P4 2.0 Ghz, 1gb ram, and only a geforce3 64 mb ddr vid card, running Windows XP. I recently bought Horizons (fatal mistake I know), and I kept crashing saying there was something wrong with my video device driver. I then noticed that my driver version was dated around 8/1/2001. So needless to say I upgraded to the latest from nvidia. So then everything worked, except my DVDs. PowerDVD plays the DVDs, but they are a complete mess of colors and you cant see anything. Windows Media Player freezes when I try to play it, and so does interactual. SO THEN I went to Dell's website, and got an older driver version, but more up to date than my original one. Now everything works fine. After that huge diatribe, my question is how do I get the latest drivers without my DVD rom going all wonky? I thought maybe my DVD rom drivers (or firmware, whatever its called I don't know) were out of date, but it's like impossible to find them. I have a Samsung SD-616 DVD rom, but it doesn't say anything more specifically than that anywhere. If anyone knows anything that would fix this, whether it actually is the DVD rom or not, I would be eternally grateful for your help. Thanks ! |
