I installed Win2K 10 days ago and now experience some odd things. At first all OK but then something happened and I couldn't shutdown or restart. Just when it should either display the "it is safe to turn off your PC" or begin the restart, the screen goes black and there's this flashing cursor top left. Nothing then happens, no key input. You have to hit the off button. Sounds trivial but it's becoming a real pain when installing new software.
I have started again from scratch and it seems to be when I install HP CDRW software that the problems start. Both installs of win2k have been onto clean, formatted hard drives (although I found I had to install win 95 first to get an install window!) Oh, and now all my Office applications die after 5 seconds of starting each. Even after I re-installed the whole lot. Any ideas gratefully appreciated. Paul |

The Windows 2000 installation cd is a bootable cd. Change the boot sequence in your bios to floppy, CD-ROM, HD and then reboot the pc. The setup will start automatically.

Thanks for advice. Can't believe I didn't try that earlier. Everything OK now.
