I was wondering if or how you can use Command Prompt to open progams that will open in a DOS window in any other Windows OS? I want to use a hex editor called Hexposure, but it runs in a DOS window. HELP ME PLEASE

Yes you can.
One way to do it is to open the command prompt and type the name of your proggie. START>RUN>CMD will give you the Win2K/XP command emulator, and START>RUN>COMMAND will give you the old DOS style command interpretor. You can also use the Program Compatibility Wizard within Windows XP. |

If double clicking on the file doesn't start it's own DOS window try going to "Run" and type in "command". It'll start a DOS session and you can then navigate to the program and start it, hopefully. Good Luck!
EDIT* Pillain, you beat me to it...lol

I really appreciate the help, but I ment that when I open the program, Command Prompt opens and then it closes immediately. I then get a Win32 error screen. When I open it in another OS, it works. Can I install DOS?

No.. you can't install DOS... but what you are doing is opening the program... don't do it that way... open a command prompt, then run the program from the command prompt.

What's happening is that the program runs and successfully executes. The OS, seeing that the program has completed it's operation, automatically shuts down the window.
I ran into the same problem when I first started programming in C++, my compiled programs wouldn't display anything, so I used the strategy listed above to see my output. |

I don't know anything about dos, but I know that windows xp doesn't run on top of dos like older operating systems, so that might have something to do with it.

For a Hex Editor, try out Hackman, now in version 7.03, from www.technologismiki.com/hackman/.
It is one of the most powerful Hex Editors I have ever seen, and has a lot of tools built in. For your older program, why not try using the Windows XP Program Compatibility Wizard and setting the program to run in Windows 95 or Windows 98/Me. |
