A box starts popping up on screen

Hi From Texas !

A box just started to pop up on my screen. It is about 1 1/2 inch by (?) 3 inches. It says for me to please put a disk in my A: drive (floppy). At the left part of the box is a red circle with a white x. Along the bottom it gives you 3 options. cancel--retry-retry later----I am going to ignore it because I want to do some things on the net. If it continues, I will wait to try to get rid of it sometime Saturday. I did start a virus scan in the background now as I go to web sites. I thought I would ask just in case it is a problem. I will report back within 24 hours to tell you if it became a problem. When the box pops up, I can hear my A: Drive go off checking to see. This is something I have never seen unless I was working on something that I knew needed a disk.-------Don

Greetings From Fort Worth !

Well , it has been over 24 hours since I posted this thread. The Outcome : The problem did go away as strange as it appeared. This is funny---because this box I described that kept popping up , I went to a Full Virus Scan which ran in the background as I did my work on the computer. Guess what ? there was a virus lurking there and was caught!. It was fate that had helped me out. I mean , the box caused me to run my Anti-virus check. I had to scan 11 gigs. This took a long time. --- the name of the virus was "Trojan horse Dropper.Dialx.B ." Now I do remember hearing on my modem beep-beep-beep ....Etc. I thought it strange to do that , but I rationalized it could be my ISP or some program I have looking for an update, or , information it was getting for their URL. Hummm, I better check my phone bill. Could it be dialing up those pay as you listen calls ?. Maybe, say, $3.00 a minute, $10.00 a minute, or a flat rate of $25.00 for them to tell you what you want to hear (your fortune, gambling-what game to bet on....Etc). Thank God I have a understanding phone company , a small discount phone company. , So, instead of me opening up my envelope phone bill and seeing $125.00 , I had better call their 800 number and see if any of these pay calls on my account. I do know that my phone bill runs about $19.00 a month, not bad for a computer line. -----So, in closing, this time everything worked out. But what about the next time ?-------------Don

Hi Donald: Thanx for updating the solution to your problem. What antivirus are you using? Was it on realtime scanning?
