Angry Fire Installing Windows XP

Can somebody please help me? I have a laptop which had windows 98se installed on it. Recently I tried to update to XP Pro, it went into autorun and started to install, about half-way through my computer restarted and then a screen came up and said that " Windows NT has found 0k of low memory. Windows NT needs 512k of low memory".
I have tried everything from formatting the hdd to updating my bios and i can't figure it out.

--my computer has--
6gb hard drive
256mb of ram
amd k-6 475 processor
somebody please help me!

well thats the problem
they keep the bios settings on a hidden partition of the hard drive and all the drivers for the motherboard too.
so as far as xp can tell, there is no ram at all.

I would be willing to bet that unless you have the recover cd for that system, you will not be able to reinstall w98 and have everything working again.

I tride that many years ago, ran into the same problem and had to take it to a compaq repaire center to get it back to the orignal condition

ok, but fully install 98 and verify that all the drivers for everything is still there and working, then if all checks ok.

Since you have formatted the drive, what happens when you try and boot off of the XP CD and do a fresh install? Does it give you the same error and if so at what point?

I have a Comcrap Presario 1200-XL106 w/AMD K6-2 475Mhz that originally came with 98SE. I just reformatted the drive and installed Win2K without a problem. I too, was worried about a hidden partition that held the BIOS, but I did an FDISK and never looked back.
