CRASH Blue screen

Don't know what to do with a "stop error screen"
During boot, blue screen comes up, reads as follows:

STOP: 0x0000001E(0XC0000005,0X8050A65F,0X00000001,0X00000001)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Address 8050a65f base at 80400000, DateStamp 3d366b8b - ntoskrnl.exe

Followed the instructions on the screen with no positive results. Can't go into safe mode, press F8 and select Safe mode but blue screen comes up.

The first thing I would check is the RAM. You may have some faulty RAM in there or some that XP just doesn't care for.

Actually, I assumed this is a brand new install. Did you have the system running before? If so, try to remember the last thing you did, be it a driver update or program install.

Have been running Win 2000 for at least 6 mo. on this machine. NAV detected Worm virus and I ran "Fixblast" from Symantec (Was going to follow that with a patch) When it rebooted after running fixblast is when the blue screen appeared

That error would normally point you to fully update via windows update and to disable whatever driver is causing the problem and to update/reinstall it. However in your case the problem driver is actually a core system file: ntoskrnl.exe. You cannot load windows GUI without this file, which is why you are having problems trying to get into a simple SAFE MODE.
If you had a virus, it may be easier (and more beneficial) to just reinstall windows. But you may be able to do a repair install via the WINXP CD. Hopefully it will replace the corrupted file but I'm not sure since I have never had to use it yet (knock on wood). Good Luck!
