I've installed norton works 2003. Using the Nghost to backup my hd. The pc wants to restart, so I allow it, then the message "missing operating system" comes out. Then there is this missing hal.dll. What must I do to regain my pc back to normal? I was using the basic back up on to another hd the image file, I think .ghost. Help.

Norton Systemworks strikes again. Have you tried to see if it will boot to safe mode? I doubt it will, but worth a shot If it should boot into safe mode, choose a restore point prior to Norton install.
If that fails, try booting with the XP CD. Hopefully it will see the current OS and give you the option to reinstall. That would fix the missing file. I have reinstalled over the top couple of times. If that fails, there is a option to repair. I've never used it and am unsure on the method to follow. Do a search on this forum or a google search for XP repair. Chas
