Windows XP Pro Gets Viruses?

My friend told me that Windows XP Pro has a higher possibility of getting viruses. I have Windows XP Pro SP2 Disc. But I'm afraid to upgrade. Could this be true? He does have 56k, and he has Window XP Pro without ever upgrading. I don't even think he has SP1, but he has Norton Antivirus 2004.

Is there more holes in the operating system that could be dangerous for my data?

which windows your running really don't have that much to do with weather or not you can get a virous. any system that is not properly protected can get one, sometimes even with the best protection , you can still get one

I have been running xp-pro for over 1 1/2 yr now and have yet to get one. its how you use the system that will open you up.

Been listening to one of those people who own the type of computer that is found in most elementary scools that is easy for 5 year olds to use (Mac), haven't you?
Reality is that all operating systems can be hacked and attacked. THat is why they make anti-virus programs for Windows, Apple, and Linux. So just make sure you protect your machine.

He`s more than likely referring to the blaster port 135 issue which affects NT machines. Run the latest service packs, updated virus software and the free version of Zone Alarm and you`ll have no problems.

I imagine a 5 year old, in addition to being able to use the most popular unix distro (OS X), would be able to spell school also.
