Scandisk And Defrag Question

Whenever I attempt a scandisk or defrag, it stops because my hard drive is being accessed. I stop all running applications, disable tasks, turn off my screensaver, and I can't think of anything else to do to stop it. I am on a peer to peer network, but no one is trying to access my files or printer. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello SROM2112,

Try running Scandisk and Defrag in Safe Mode.

try restarting the computer in safe mode and then start the defrag over again. sometimes the stuff running in the background will bog it down
