I try and open Internet Explorer 6 service pack1 in Win98 and I get this Error: "IExplore caused invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll at 017f:bff7a388" and it shuts down. Anyone know what's going on here.
TIA

First things first.. have you done a spyware and virus check?

Thanks HAL9000
Well I do have NAV installed and up to date. I cannot get on the internet to download ad-aware, I did have 5.0 on a floppy but that is old. I do have access to my PC (I'm fixing the 98 PC for a friend) I could put ad-aware on a cd, and transfer it over if you think that would help. Will NAV find a virus if it is already on there? |

Any software installed just prior to the error? Remove any unused\unneeded software in control panel\add\remove software.
Try cleaning out unneeded files, folders. Run MSCONFIG and trim down your startup list to the barest minimum. Down load and run a registry cleaner. Of course run NAV and check for spyware as was suggested. Basically, clean up the system and we`ll take it from there if that doesn`t help the situation. |

HAL9000
I put the current ad-aware and spybot on a cd to run on this 98 PC, I'll let you know if it solves anything. I have done a virus scan nothing turned up. |

UNBELIEVABLE!! I loaded on ad-aware 6 and the current Spybot. Ad-Aware found 326 pieces of spyware, this is after Ad-Aware 5 found 30 some pieces, then I ran Spybot and it found 273 pieces of of spyware! Needless to say Internet Explorer started right up. Boy you really do need Ad-Aware and Spybot.
Thanks Guys! |

Yeah thanks HAL9000, I had no idea spyware could prevent Explorer from opening. On my PC I run ad-aware and spybot every couple of weeks and nothing much comes up. But I don't have kids who are going all over the internet. I have fixed other PC's before and removed lots of spyware but I never ran accross where it prevented Explorer from opening.
