If this happens in the same place each time - try uninstalling your sound drivers & either reinstalling them, or downloading more recent drivers & installing those. I'll guess it's onboard sound drivers that aren't happy.
Steps: 1) Start (or re-start) computer in Safe Mode. [tap F8 at startup] 2) From Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, remove any audio related software 3) From System/Device Manager in the Control Panel, remove all audio devices. 4) Reboot - you will want your Win98se CD handy if it needs the joystick drivers again from the CD. 5) Reinstall (or update) your sound drivers. If you have onboard sound, you may have usable drivers on the CD that came with your system and/or motherboard. Best of luck . . . Thanks Gary. It is definetly a sound related problem as I only get this whilst surfing. Lose sound first then I know I have a couple of mins to save open applications before lockup.
I'll try your advice. Thanks for the welcome. |
