Re-install plug and play enumerator on XP
Does anyone know how to delete the plug and play enumerator in Windows XP? I'm hoping deletion followed by reinstallation will get my AC97 onboard audio recognized.

Yes, sound is enabled in Bios, but it when I try to install the audio driver (from Shuttle or others), it tells me that I need to enable it. So far, it's never recognized the onboard audio. I've seen others folks with the same problem, but no good solution yet. I was attempting the one suggestion that worked (allegedly for Win98), where you remove the plug and play enum, reinstall, then get it's supposed to find the audio device. It's certainly possible that the onboard audio is defective.

I just installed a cheap audio card, and got my sound going. Kind of defeats the purpose of onboard audio. Still would like to know what happened.

Maybe not. Depending on what sound card you put in you may be saving your CPU clock cycles it would normally be crunching audio data. The CPU is now free to do other tasks and leave the audio to the sound card. Of course, this is all dependant of what "cheap" sound card you put in your system.
