internet connection+

Just built new machine- Used old hard drive-60gig Maxtor. In order to get new machine to recognize the new drive had to reinstall XP. New box would never recognize the onboard lan port. I have reinstall XP so many times I'm sike of it. Reasembled old machine and reinstall XP on it and everything works fine.

My question is if I use a boot disk and get to Dos prompt. From there delete the windows dir. Then install XP back on to the new machine, Will that work and will I lose data on hard drive.

or can anyone tell me why I cannot connect. Hardware manager says the port is enabled and is working.

Did you install the drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard?

Drivers off of CD that came with MB will not install now. I am resigned to reformat HD and start over. Problem is all my OS are upgrades. Not sure how to proceed. Any Help

As long as you have the OS's disk then there shouldn't be a problem. Just reformat, install XP when it searches for a previous version of windows you just have to put the old windows disk in.
