C:\plugplay\drivers\dos\dwcfgmg.sys?

While in "Sys Config Util", I checked Config.sys tab and found, DEVICE=C:\plugplay\drivers\dos\dwcfgmg.sys.
A notation read if I wanted it to run, put a check in the box.
Could anyone shed any light on what this is, and if I should be concerned ?

Hi sam - do the lines look something like this?

>REM The following line is only needed for programs that
>REM only run in DOS mode and require sound support
>REM DEVICE=C:\MWW\MANAGER\DWCFGMG.SYS

(those lines came from a computer with an old mwave sound card)

I've seen this referred to as the "DOS Configuration Manager". It isn't common on recent computers, but on older systems with ISA modems and older sound cards (mwave, for example) - you might see this item enabled for things to work in DOS (some devices on a non-Plug and Play bios machine might need it to run in Windows as well, but I don't remember exactly [it's been a while]).

So, unless your sound or other older device isn't working, leave that one alone. Especially if you don't play any DOS games or run any DOS programs requiring sound.

Thanks Gary! Everything sound wise is working ok, and I do have a SoundBlaster16 card.
Now that I think about it, years ago I put a thread on PCMech about an error msg during post, concerning my sound card. I'm sure one of the replies was to type this line to remove the script as it wasn't doing any harm.
Thanks for the input.
