When trying to install Windows xp after formatting my harddrive i get an error saying that the system file time out of synk, error code 800b0101 and to verify that my computer is using the correct date and time and re-run the setpup.
This is realy annoying me as it is my mothers computer and she is very inpatiant. |

Go into BIOS setup, and set the correct date and time.

Go into BIOS setup, change the system time to a date BEFORE 29,05,02.
Install XP. Reset to correct system time after installation is complete, and before you try to get any updates. |

Something built into the OS. Ask MS why, only they know, and they probably aren't telling

Try running fdisk, remove all partitions, and start over.

If you use fdisk, remove all partitions, then the setup will recreate any partitions the way you want, and format before installation.

Just a question till reboot gets back. The CD you borrowed. Is it XP Pro and you are entering a XP Home id. or vice versa?

Now I maybe wrong, so if reboot or one of the moderators corrects what I say, please forgive me. If I am not mistaken, you stated that your winXP CD was bad and you borrowed a friends and used it instead. Is that correct? If so, each OS CD has a unique ID and will not accept an incorrect ID number. If I were you, I would take the defective CD back and get a new one. Otherwise your going to continue getting error messages. thorlo6

All I can add, is that the CD you "borrowed" is a different version than the key you have. It could be XP Home, XP Pro, XP SP1, etc...You are going to have to get a replacement from MS. If you can prove that you own it, they'll replace the defective CD for a nominal charge, nothing near the cost of another at the store.
One other option to try, is copying the CD to your hard drive, then installing from there. |

The CD's aren't key specific. If you have a key for windows XP home, you should be able to use any windows XP home CD, and just input your code when prompted.
In your case, I would contact M$ about it... but leave out the part about you downloading other keys from the internet
