XP User accounts

My brother brought down the computer coz he's finished college, and he only has one account on the computer, the administrator account, When the computer starts up it automatically logs into his account.
I want to create my own account, when I do will it start at the welcome screen where I type in the password etc? And how do I know if my brothers account has a password or not? Does it mean it doesn't have a password if it just goes straight into his account on startup? On the welcome screen after I have my own account, if I just click on his account will it go into his account without asking for any password?

Sorry for askin all these silly questions, It's just when it's not my computer I don't wanna be messing up anything on him.
thanks in advance

If the computer automatically logs into his account without asking for a password now, it isn't password protected and will remain that way after you create your user name. Yes, it will start at the welcome screen to give you the option to select which user you want to startup after you create your account.

No, you won't affect his account's desktop and other personal settings, as long as you log in under your own username--even if you have an administrator account. But having an administrator account will allow you to make general changes to the system. Such changes will globally affect all user accounts on the computer.

Many people give themselves and everyone else Admin privileges when all they want to do is browse the internet and play games. You don't need such a "high-level" account to just play games and word-process. Tell him to password protect the admin account and pick a lesser account to sign-on with no password. Just my 2cents.
