blue screen on startup
My machine was messed up probably by a virus so I re-formatted the HD and installed MS XP from a CD. During loading it came up with the following files not copied:- swenum.sys, driver.cab, stream.sys, streamci.dll. This was followed later by " device installer error. Could not load installer for CDROM, also DISKDRIVE " This is followed by "setup cannot copy file earl.ac_.
On completion, it crashed (blue screen ) and continues to each time I start up. I have tried re-formatting and loading Win 98 then XP but it still crashes Help would be appreciated by an elderly frustrated "dummy" Thanks |

I am thinking that your original problem was perhaps not a virus at all, but a hardware problem that is still present and is causing you all this grief..Are you booting from the XP cdrom and loading it that way?? I'll assume you are since you formatted you have no other way to load Xp. Just a longshot in the dark here but I think I would want to place a new or at least different cdrom drive that is known to be good, in that system, and give a go at loading windows again. Make sure the disks are not dirty or scratched..We need to be sure it isn't just a BIOS setting that has changed also...
