XP Frozen Startup
Interesting problem here. On a normal restart, my XP home edition allows me to login at the normal login screen, but will not load my desktop. My wallpaper loads, but no taskbar or desktop icons. When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL the task manager shows my CPU Usage at 100% with no applications running (explorer.exe is often running at 99 in the processes tab, however).
Any suggestions? Any way I can save my files or avoid a total XP re-installation? |

Have you tried to boot to safe mode?? Xp will do a repair installation which will save all your data and programs, but that may not help, it sounds like a virus, spyware or just something that is set to run at startup that windows can no longer find and execute. You may need to clean out your startup folder, by booting into safe mode than using the msconfig utility and going to the startup tab and clearing everything out..
Defragging and clearing out of unnecessary files on the harddrive would not hurt either..
