Start the computer with a Win98 boot-disk which will have CD-ROM support. Insert the Win95 CD and run setup and your off.

. . . or download a Win95 bootdisk that matches the version of your Win95 CD from http://www.bootdisk.com. They generally add CD-rom drivers to their bootdisks. If it's a custom bootdisk.com disk, it will usually set the cd-rom drive to "R" ---so you'd start the computer with the floppy diskette bootdisk, then type "R:" to switch to the cd-rom drive, then type "Setup" and Windows will start the install (type the commands without the quotes).

This all assumes that you've prepared the drive by partitioning and formatting. If you are using Win95 original, remember that your partitions can be no larger than 2gb each.

I'll assume the laptop's hardware is somewhat older, and doesn't match up well with Win98? [the lifting of the partition limitations and the arrival of the FAT32 file system made life a lot simpler when Win98 arrived]

If you have any other questions, ask away

But you can also get yourself in problems with the CD since laptop versions may not be as well supported as the bigger system versions. Some require special drivers from the LT manufacturer, depending on how it was implemented. In any case, trial and error will show whether it will work.
You might also consider transferring the install files to the HD and install from there. Makes the whole install thing a pleasure in comparison.
