With system restore enabled you can restore the OS to a previous state. Here is some info on it

From my understanding, System Restore does not delete any data, it just changes paths to drivers, etc, that start up and run. So if you restore to a previous time, everything will still be on your computer from before but may need to be reinstalled just to set up the correct paths in the registry. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is you can use it without fear of loss of information.
System Restore works great. I've used it many a time to go back to when my drivers actually worked. Good Luck!
