Botched windows install
Hi everybody, I need some help, I recently bought a "virgin" system ie no software loaded etc, so I attempted to load a copy of windows 98 onto it, all went well till I tried to enter the product key and found out the one I had did not work, I can boot up into safe mode but thats about it.
I now have a proper version of windows xp but can't figure a way of uninstalling 98 and replacing it with xp, anybody know the best way to do this ? thanks Pete |

Boot with your xp cd [cd set as first boot device in the bios] delete the partition you installed win9x to. Now create a new partition and format with ntfs and setup will continue to load xp.

XP will probably see the WIN98 and install on seperate partition as dual boot.
Boot with a WIN98 boot disk and run format to clean the drive or download Delpart from http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm and delete the partition. Then boot with the XP CD and it will format, partition and load for you. Chas
