Hi there. I have a new laptop with a DVD-RW/CD-RW drive, but I am confused as to
whether it accepts DVD-R or DVD+R (or something else)?? ANY IDEAS PLEASE? This is my notebook: Toshiba Satellite Notebook with Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 2.8GHz Model: P15-S409 This is what it says in the manual: DVD-ROM : Drive Shared DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive : Yes, DVD-RW/CD-RW drive DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive Speeds : 2x1x8 DVD-RW, 2x DVD-RAM (write); 16x4x24 CD-RW Thanks for your suggestions! |

You can use DVD-R/RW media to burn, it DOESN'T ACCEPT DVD+R/RW media to burn.

By the way, why is this called a 'Multi-recorder' drive. ... and what is DVD-RAM? How is it different from +R or -R? So confusing!

Multi because it burns both DVD and CD media, I think. DVD-R and +R media are two very similar formats created by two different coalitions of companies. Most new burners are now Dual-Format and so accept both. DVD-RAM is a third type of media which acts more like a hdd and won't work in many ROM drives or set-top players.
