This takes the biscuit
As stated in the suubject line of this post, the family computer just takes the biscuit. Since last week i have so many problems with it, i'm thinking of hoying it out the window
Error1: Windows f****d up Error2: Windows wouldnt instal (after formating) Error3:Windows XP cd was to damaged to use Error4: No matter which serial cd key i used it was invalid Now my latest error is that it can't find my modem. It was working perfectly, then all of a sudden it couldn't find my modem AT ALL, so i uninstalled the default Geeric Soft HFC drivers that windows was using and installed the ones that i actualy had from the manufacter but still Windows doesn't seem to want to recognise it. What is the matter with this heap of junk. I think the only think i changed is adding a scanner with a USB lead and installing the scanner software and thats it. what is the matter?! |

The only thing that I can reccomend with the information avaliable is to check if there are any device conflicts in the Windows Device Manager. If there are then go about correcting them and see if it works then. The reason it might not be detecting the modem is because the device is already installed, however not functional.
Sorry if this does not help... Questions & Comments: frobro390@aol.com |

thanks for the help but it doesn't help, i've already checked the device manager numerous times and there are no conflicts.
I was thinking i might just try and install the generic Soft HSF modem that comes with windows but i can't find it when i go to add new hardware, it just has standard modems, no generic ones |

Go to the Device Manager and click on the modem, select uninstall, shutdown the computer, remove the modem, restart the computer, shutdown the computer, reinstall the modem using a different PCI slot than it was originally installed in , restart the computer. It should not automatically detect the modem and install the generic drivers. The generic drivers are fine for most Winmodems.

You don't say what scanner and software, but FWIW I have a HP4200C and XP and have a lot of problems. It doesn't mess up my XP, but every time I go to use the scanner or copier function I wind up uninstalling the software, rebooting and reinstalling the software. This is with the HP software for XP. Success
i am using a Cannon Lide30, i tried unplugging the usb lead and uninstalling the software but to no avail, it still couldn't find my modem.
Anyways i formatted my computer hoping it would be re-discovered but to my suprise it didn't, so what would have been the last action was to move the modem into a differet pci slot and see if that worked, to my suprise IT DID. everything works hunky dorry now |
