Win XP shutting down
I've been having a problem with windows shutting down for no apparent reason. When I reboot I get this message.
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini020904-01.dmp C:\DOCUME~1\Rich\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml Can anyone please clue me in to what the problem may be? I was due for a good cleaning anyways, so I formatted and reinstalled windows and the same message comes up. Specs are: Win XP Pro Athlon XP 1800+ Biostar M7VIB 512 DDR Radeon 9200 SE |

Are you getting a blue screen or some other error message?

No blue screen. Just completly shuts down without warning. Sometimes It will lock up and I have to shut it down with the power button. Also, no other errors.

Is it shutting down or is it rebooting? Have you checked your event logs for errors?

It's shutting down mostly. It may have rebooted once or twice. No I haven't checked my event log, but I'll do it now.

Those errors are specifically hardware generated errors, not by your OS itself or by any application. The first thing I would do is check for system temperatures - processor and video card included. If the errors persist in spite of having adequate cooling, I would recommend then testing your memory. Finally, if any of the aforementioned steps dont solve it, I would try to retrace back what devices and device drivers you installed, and try going back and uninstalling them. Check to see if these errors are documented for your mobo, or especially your video card.
These responses are rather generic, because the error logs, though detailed, just point to generic hardware inconsistency .. googling out the errors should give you a basic idea of the nature of the beast. |
