Making drives unavailable
I have a dual boot system set up, one boot is XP (C: ), running strictly audio programs, another boot (D: ), also XP, used for running everything else. My question, is there anyway to hide the C: drive when I boot into D:\, making it completely unavailable and inaccessable from D:?

You could probably do it easier by creating a user and playing with the permissions.

Share it, then rename it with a $ as the last character.

Administrative shares ($) are only hidden on the network. C$ cannot be renamed and is accessible locally. Try creating a shared folder named test$ and see if it is hidden locally and then check network neighborhood for it. It will be hidden but acessible from the cmd prompt with proper permissions.
A drive can be hidden through group policies but is still accessible. (start\run\C: for example or fire up Internet Explorer and type the same command, even if it is hidden) Try hiding it in group policies and deny access to whomever you don`t want to be snooping around in there. Or for better security, use an external drive. Security starts with physical access. |
