XP Hangs at Boot Up

Hi Guys

I know this is abit of a common problem, but I have looked through previous messages and not been able to find anything that has helped, so I thought I would post a message here and give that a go!

When I turn my computer on/restart etc, my system will startup as normal and will display the desktop with icons etc, but the computer will hang (mouse still working) for a minute and then the hard drive will kick in and complete the bootup and at this point the system is usable!

I have messed about with the msconfig, startup options and even by turning off a number of different startup programs, this still hasnt helped!

Its only recently (last 2 weeks) that this has started to happen. I have NAV 2003, Zone Alarm and the normal kind of startup stuff. I have tried to uninstall NAV and stop zone alarm starting and this didnt have any affect. I also removed MSN Messenger and that had no affect.

Both my CD Drives are empty and have never had a problem with them. Details of the system are: -

Win XP Pro
512mb Ram
80gb HD
P4 2.4
Liteon CDRW 52x
Liteon DVD 52x

Any ideas on what could be causing it would be appreciated.

If need be, I can list the startup programs if that would be any help?

Thanks

Karl

Are you using a network card? If so, how is the Network Protocol (TCP/IP) configured? If it's set to "Obtain an IP address automatically", this will cause a delay on bootup. Perhaps this is what you are describing?

Thanks for the idea... I looked in the network settings and saw that I had installed a MS Loopback adapter due to some work I was doing on VB.NET and after I disabled this, the bootup was alot better.

I wouldnt have thought of that, so thanks for the idea!

Once again, another mystery solved, I owe you guys a few drinks lol!
