Hi Gang
I thought i would throw in a easy question for you people with all the knowledge. After all they cannot be all hard questions. I am building my self a new computer, and I am going to put a OEM version of XP pro on it. I am going to be using the W/D hard drive out of my old computer, which I have 98SE on. Question is what is the best want to do this, put it right over the 98SE, or is there a better way of doing this, to avoid any problems. Take care..........Gunny |

any time you install a new OS, the best thing to do is format the drive and do a fresh install.
It is possible to install over win98, but fresh is always best. you would need to backup your files first, and make sure you have any cd's for programs you are running, you'll have to re-install those from scratch too. |

If you have the OEM version of XP, you can just start from scratch, which leads to the fewest problems. Back up whatever data you want to save to CD, floppy, another drive, or elsewhere, then install XP.

Hi Doc and yellohut
Ok, that is great, being I don't have much on my one drive, the HD is fairly new, should I just burn the whole drive onto a CD then. So I don't miss any thing? Take care..........Gunny |

That's certainly easiest. If you compress everything using something like WinZip or WinRAR then it will take less time to burn to CD, since you won't have to burn as many.
