Remote Procedure Call Termination
Several times in this past week Windows XP Professional has popped up with an unrecoverable error message, that the Remote Procedure Call has unexpectedly terminated, and it gives me a timer with a countdown until Windows restarts. In over a year of using XP, I have never had this problem before, and have not installed any new programs or changed any hardware recently. Any suggestions?

I would check with some type of antivirus or something - could be a worm in your system. Besides that, a corruption on your Registry sounds to be the case. I'm not exactly an expert on OS, per say, but that much I can offer.

I have exactly the same thing on a new install of XP on my laptop. The only thing I have done was do a clean install of XP and down load an updated driver for my modem from the laptop's manufacturer. I get the message that my computer is about to be shut down by NT Authority/System. The second paragraph of the massage says that Windows must restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) terminated unexpectedly. Then the computer restarts. This seems to only happen when I'm on line. The only other thing that is unusual about the modem is that the dial up tone sounds like it has an echo.
Please suggest something, I've run a check on the modem and the compute says it's clean but I still feel like the modem is the problem. Oh yes, one other thing is when I installed the updated driver the computer said the driver wasn't "digitally signed" by Microsoft. I called the company that made the computer and the tech said to go ahead and install it anyway. He also said I should have used the full install software instead of the update. I had the original disk for verification and the install went well. Hank |

It is the Blaster worm. After cleaning it off, you might have to reinstall the service pak. That's what happened to me.
