Reformat

My computer has gotten some serious viruses on it and i wanted to erase my computer and start over. I have the WINXP disk and I dont really care what i have left on my computer, I am ready just to erase it. How do I erase the whole computer and reinstall WIN XP. Sorry I am a computer newbie.

You can use FDisk or you can use the XP disc to format the drive. If you want to write it to 0's you can use killdisk.

Killdisk would be your best option as it zero fills the hard drive.

But if you just want to use the WinXP CD, go into BIOS and set the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive, put the WinXP CD into the drive, Save and Exit the BIOS. The system will reboot and the WinXP installer will take over. When it comes to the screen asking what you want to do, pick the option to do a fresh install. You'll have to create your partitions again and then the OS will install on the c: partition.
