Error

Hey all,

I was online, and all of a sudden I got a dialog box saying "My computer will shut down in 1 minute, please save your work" I was still able to move around my my mouse and stuff.
I have scanned for viruses, found none, spyware, removed all. Said something about services.exe.
This happened when I shut down Seagate Personal Firewall. Although, today I did disable some services using Black Vipor's WIN2K guide. Although, I was able to boot up fine, if a service needed to be run, it give me an error that it needs to start up.

any clue what this could be?

Sounds like it may have been an RPC error. I had this happen to me a couple of times.

I can't get BlackViper's site to load right now, but he has an article about this, and I followed it, and it solved the problem.

I just disabled the ports mentioned in the article: TCP and UDP ports 135, 139 and 445. And haven't had the problem again. Don't know if you did that or not.

Have you been installing the Critical updates from Microsoft? The fix would have been in one of those updates.

What You Should Know About the Blaster Worm and Its Variants.

Cricket,

I just ran MS UPDATE and installed all of the critical updates and the Windows 2000 updates aswell as the hot fix provided for that RPC error from Black Vipor's website.
I think I am all set. Havent got it yet. If I do get it again, I will disable TCP and UDP ports 135, 139, and 445 in router configuration.
Just to be sure, I ran Symantec's W32 Blaster removal tool and the tool did not find any traces of the worm on my PC.
So it could of been just an attack or something like that.

Gotta start learning to install those Crit MS updates
