When going to install Windows XP (on both of my new hard-drives in two computers) I get the following error message:
"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufaturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3." I already checked my hardware configurations, and I made sure that both hard drives were set to cable select, that the IDE cables were in properly, as well as the power connectors. I was wondering if I needed to get an NT command prompt startup disk to partishion the drives first, or if it is someother error. Please help me, for I am without computers! Thank you for your time!!! |

Are your drives attached to any IDE controllers that require drivers for XP to recognize them? If so you will need to create a storage device controller driver disk, and then prompt that you have an additional storage device driver at the beginning of the installation.
You do not need to partition a disk for XP before installation - the installation program will do all that for you. |

Ok, just checked in Bios, and the Pri Master (my HD) is listed as "Not Installed". I have no idea why that would be. As far as a PCI IDE controller card, I don't have one, its intergrated onto the motherboard. I have no idea if my drives are attached to any IDE controllers that require drivers for XP to recongize them, how would I find that out. Thanks yet again for the help.

If you don't have a RAID array and you don't have a PCI controller card, you probably don't need any additional driver. Post your system specs here just to make sure, though.
Are you sure you have the HD jumpered right? In the right position on the IDE cable if you have an 80-wire cable? |

Did you try setting the jumper on the hard drive to master? Try another power connector. If the CD drive works , swap the connector with that one.

Select the [Advanced BIOS Features] option from the Main Menu and press
[Enter] key. Does your HD show up as one of the boot devices? |

No, but what is listed is "IDE-0" which should be the HD. Although, it says nothing else, so it might not be detecting it still....

On my second computer with the newer bios it lists "HDD-0" as the second boot up device, but the HD isn't detected on startup.

Ok, So the drives arn't being recognised in the BIOS. You have managed to get one recognised, but not on the machine you want. ok, can you try a different IDE cable? the cable could be faulty.

Put the hdd into the computer that it shows up in and run WD's data lifeguard tool just to make sure the HDD isn't broken.
