trouble booting

Im having some trouble getting in windows XP. Yesterday I turned on my PC, went out of the room a couple of seconds, when I came back I saw my wallpaper on the saceen and it just rebooted out of nowhere. Later it stalled at the welcom screen. And now this morning it stalled at the welcom screen again and when I rebooted it didint even get there, it was just a black screen(I could see and use my mouse on both though) it finaly worked on the 3rd try. I scanned my PC with as-aware, spybot,eTrust, housecall, symantec online, panda online and found nothing, what could be causing this?

Cool

I just finished replacing the mobo and HD in my wife's PC that was doing pretty much the same thing. When it is stalled is the HD light on solid. Her's was and if I left it, it would eventually finish booting. Sometimes took 15 minutes, but it would make it.

Yes try turning them around. We need our lights and internal speakers working because they can tell us a lot when things go wrong.

When I build one, I get the lights and internal speaker working before proceeding to load a system.
