Exclamation System reboots when resolution is changed.

Problem:
system "reboots" when software changes the resolution. IE... a screen saver, or a game. example when the screensaver kicks (Encore Serene Screen 2.0) in it reboots, or when trying to install Sierra's "War of the ring" or playing a game already installed EIDOS's Thief. This is a newly built system:
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe NVIDIA nForce Ultra 400 chipset
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
1gb Corsair PC2700 (512x2) Dual channel
Radeon 9600xt 128m w/updated Catalyst 2.4 (wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-981-040127m-013420c.exe)
Monitor: WEN 17" (from my previous system), but the games worked fine then.
No other cards installed
I originally had an ATI Radeon 9600se, but because of this problem I exchanged it for the 9600xt.
Thanks.

Try updating you catalyst drivers. 4.2 is out now.

[edit]: Never mind, 4.2 is what you are running. Guess you just transposed the numbers.

What do you have for a PSU?

Well from what I got from your post ... Whenever the resolution changes, it reboots?
I may be way off but that could be because your video settings are set to "Restart the computer before applying the new display settings"
right click on the middle of your desktop and choose "Properties",
Then click the "Settings" tab,
then choose "Advanced",
under the "General" tab is 3 options about your display settings.....
choose "Apply the new display settings without restarting"
Hope that helps...

Computer rebooting....

Thanks JPMiller,

I've done that one already.... I don't think its the graphics card.
I installed my old card and it does the same thing.... I've been through the BIOS, updated everything... (BIOS, XP, ATI video drivers) It now points to the Motherboard or Windows XP....

Please help if you can....

Thanks

Did you disable the WinXP "Restart on Errors" option yet?

Where can I find that option?
Right Click on My Computer, select Properties> Advanced Tab>Startup and Recovery> Uncheck "Automatically Restart."
