XP pro to XP home
is it possibile to go from XP Pro to XP home? My buddy's modem will not work ever since we installed XP pro. It worked fine with XP home. New drivers and a new modem has been reinstalled. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Go to the Device Manager and select the Modem entry, right click on it and uninstall it. Shutdown the computer. Physically remove the modem> Restart the computer without the modem. Shutdown the computer. Reinstall the modem, but put it in a different PCI slot. Restart the computer and let XP find it.
If XP finds and installs the driver for the modem, don't do any other driver installs, just leave it as it will work just fine. Most of the time that I have seen problems with modems in XP the person got to thinking that they must use the drivers that came with the modem and many times these are wrong. Even though it will say generic 56k the thing will work fine. |

also you cannot go from xp-pro to xp-home, you can go the other way but not in reverse, as it would be downgradeing.

XP Pro and XP Home are the same drivers wise. So, no point in downgrading. Your problem will still happen.
