Slipsteaming W2K the how to question...
How does one create a cool slipstreaming W2K CD with sp 4 ( I've already downloaded it and saved) and whatever else that is necessary to make it work the way it's supposed to, drivers etc, etc. I haven't got a clue on how to prepare one correctly. I need a step by step tutorial for this project

Here is how I do it.
1) Copy entire win2k cd to a folder on your hd; I assume you use C:\win2k 2) Download network version of service pack ie the entire sp. 3) Extract the service pack files either with a utility like winrar / winzip or by using this syntax “c:\sp4\W2KSP4.exe –x” I am assuming you use C:\sp4 for the folder 4) Now we will update the win2k that you copied. Open a cmd prompt and type this ”c:\sp4\i386\update\update.exe /s:c:\win2k” 5) You should see a gui showing the progress for the update. Note if you use a different folder / drive just substitute what you used. Now we will make the cd bootable. Open Nero and choose bootcd from the menu. We can either extract the boot image or you can download one from the net. I use one I downloaded. 1) Point it at where the boot image file is located 2) Enable expert settings; choose No emulation, change loaded sectors to 4 3) On the ISO tab choose 31 character file length 4) Label tab you can put whatever you want; I use win2ksp4 5) Click the NEW button and copy the contents of the folder you originally copied win2k to. Not the folder rather the contents. 6) Copy and other utilities, drivers, DX updates, etc you want and click burn. Note I have only used Nero 6 and 5.5 to do this; it works very well. You will need other instructions for other burning programs. |
