Where are you seeing the "370 MB available" message?

In performance monitor
And as wacky as this sounds, somewhere else, but I don't remember where.

It just means that the other 142Meg RAM is currently being used, and that is probably as it should be. Also depends on how much you have running in the backround that is loaded in memory.

That's not bad at all - I have 768mb and only 290 is available right now - even after a reboot I never have more than 590 or so available. Every process listed in task manager uses memory.

noby, I am always open to learning new things, so, when I go to start-?- where is configuration?
In programs? Accessories? Control Panel?
Do you mean sys info?
thanks

Right-click on "My Computer," select Properties, and you will see how much memory is actually installed.

To save ppl time, I know how much memory I have installed, I built the PC. It was that a 120 MB diff was showing in performance monitor, as soon as I started the PC.
I keep a minimum of services and programs starting .
That seemed high to me. A lot of memory going to what feels like waste. I'm anal. I can't help it.
I appreciate all the help though.

Blak - Opera can eat up 150+ megs all by itself after surfing for a week, never closing it, using automatic ram caching. Add to that Seti, 2 instant messengers, IRC, Norton Antivirus, Zone Alarm, Asus Probe, Diskeeper, a weather app, a clock sync app, InCD, scanner detector, ATI tray app, mailbox checker, Datakeeper..........you get the picture. Win2K handles it like a champ, and I'm only running a 800 MHz P3. I reboot once a week just for the hell of it.
